Citrus College Names Scott Calles Inaugural Head Coach of Flag Football
Scott Calles enters his first season as head coach of the Citrus College flag football program in 2027, leading the launch of the college's inaugural team.
"The biggest thrill is getting to build this program from day one," Calles said. "Developing student-athletes, building culture, and establishing a standard — that's the heartbeat of a new program. There is nothing more exciting than recruiting new players, teaching the game the right way and watching a group grow into a competitive unit."
Calles comes to Citrus College women's flag football after leading the girls flag football program at Chino Hills High School, which completed its inaugural season in fall 2024. During his time at Chino Hills, Calles oversaw all three levels of the program and helped build a successful foundation, serving more than 70 student-athletes in each of the program's first two seasons.
A former Citrus standout and seasoned coach, Calles brings extensive experience in player development, recruiting, and offensive production at both the collegiate and high school levels.
Calles has also served multiple stints on the Citrus football staff, most recently as wide receivers coach and special teams coordinator since 2023. During that time, the Owls' receiving corps has produced more than 20 scholarship athletes, including a unanimous All-State selection and a single-season Triple Crown record holder.
In his previous stint with the program from 2019 to 2021, Calles coached five All-Conference selections in a single season and helped five wide receivers earn scholarships to four-year universities. His ability to develop talent and elevate positional performance has been a hallmark of his coaching career.
At the high school level, Calles spent multiple seasons at Chino Hills High School, serving as wide receivers coach from 2016 to 2019 and offensive coordinator from 2021 to 2023. During his time with the Huskies, he coached 14 All-League wide receivers and helped numerous student-athletes continue their careers at the next level.
