Owls Catch Fire Early, Roll Past Oxnard 72–57
Women's Basketball rolled past Oxnard College 72–57 on the road last Saturday, December 6.
With the win, the Owls move to 3–6 overall, while Oxnard drops to 6–6 on the season.
Citrus came out firing, taking a 22–12 lead after the first quarter behind efficient shooting — 8-for-15 from the field and 5-for-10 from three — while forcing six Condor turnovers. The pace slowed in the second quarter, but the Owls still extended their lead, outscoring Oxnard 13–8 to take a 35–20 advantage into halftime.
The Owls matched their first-quarter scoring output with 22 points in the third, going 6-for-16 from the floor and making up for a cold stretch from three (1-for-8) by converting 7-of-10 from the free-throw line. Oxnard had its best run in the fourth, outscoring Citrus 18–15, but the early deficit was too much to overcome as the Owls secured the 72–57 win.
Citrus finished 23-of-65 from the field (35.4%), 11-of-35 from three (31.4%), and 14-of-18 at the line while holding Oxnard without a made three (0-for-11). The Owls also capitalized on Condor mistakes, turning turnovers into a 28–19 scoring edge.
Jhavmine Ave delivered a career performance, scoring 33 points on 12-of-25 shooting and 3-of-9 from deep, while adding eight rebounds and three assists. Brianna Gomez provided another offensive spark, dropping 22 points with a season-high seven made threes and two assists. Setsianna Kraynak controlled the glass with 12 rebounds alongside four points and two assists, and Samantha Martinez added 10 rebounds, six points, and one assist.
Citrus returns home tomorrow, Wednesday, December 9, to host Victor Valley College at 5 p.m.
