Despite giving up an early goal, Citrus College shook it off and grabbed a 5-1 victory over LA Valley Friday afternoon.
The Owls improve to 8-4-4 overall and 6-1-3 in the Western State Conference, while the Monarchs slip to 4-12-2 on the year and 1-8-1 in conference.
LA Valley came out and scored a goal in just the fourth minute of action after catching Citrus off guard.
The Owls regrouped and equalized in the 12th minute of action after Dianne Garcia knocked in a Lucy Bower assist. Four minutes later, Bower found the back of the net off a Jayme Beatty pass before Maddy Moris converted her third penalty kick of the year in the 43rd minute to give the home team a 3-1 lead at halftime.
LA Valley tried to keep Citrus at bay in the second half, but the Owls kept pushing and Samantha Casas capitalized off a Stevie Spencer corner kick before Garcia put the final dagger in with a goal just 30 seconds before the final whistle blew to secure the 5-1 victory.
The Owls head to Glendale College on Tuesday at 4 p.m. and remain on the road with an afternoon contest at the College of the Canyons on Friday.
