Owls Finish Regular Season at PCC Invite
Pasadena, CA -- Facing arguably the stiffest competition from around the State, the Citrus College Women's Swim program finished up it's regular season schedule this past weekend at the 2015 Pasadena City College Invitational. The Owls had a number of strong performances and were paced by freshmen Miranda Furuto and Cassidy Miller.
Freshman Alexandria Romero set the tone for the Owls early with a 28th place finish out of 57 swimmers in the grueling 500 Free. Romero posted a time of 6:03.17 shattering her previous personal best by nearly four seconds. after that it was sophomore Kimberly Torres and freshman Katelyn Rivas' turn in the 200 IM. Torres finished in 38th (2:35.69) out 68 swimmers, while Rivas was right behind in 39th place (2:36.96).
From there it was sophomore Lauren Quintero and Furuto who shone in the 50 Free. Going up against 115 swimmers, Furuto finished in 20th place (26.45) taking sixth one-hundredths of a second off her previous best time, while Quintero was in 40th place (27.80), taking off nearly a full second.
Furuto would team up with Miller, and freshmen Carly Casillas and Elaine Hodge in the 200 Medley Relay to finishi in 15th place out of 35 teams with a time of 2:06.70. Furuto would later team up with Rivas, Quintero and Natasha Martinez in the 200 Free Relay to finish in 16th place out of 34 teams with a time of 1:51.28. Furuto kept it going in the 100 Fly finishing in 13th place out of 53 swimmers wit ha time of 1:04.75, taking off seven-tenths of a second in that event. She would finish things off in the 100 Free with a 10th place finish out of 102 swimmers with a time of 57.25 which was 1.5 seconds faster than her previous best effort.
Miller would round out the weekend for the Owls with her performances in the 100 Breast and 200 Breast. In the 100 Breast, Miller finished in 20th place out of 58 swimmers with a time of 1:17.30, a two-tenths of a second new personal best. In the 200 Breast, Miller finished in 14th out of 33 swimmers with a time of 2:49.61.
The Owls will take back to the water in two weeks when they swim to continue their seasons at the 2015 Western State Conference Swim and Dive Championships hosted by Ventura College. Citrus starts the three day event on Thursday April 16th at the Ventura Aquatics Center, with prelims in the morning beginning at approximately 8:00 AM.
