Owls Post Strong Results at Western State Conference Championships

The Citrus College swim team delivered a standout performance at the Western State Conference (WSC) Championships, held April 17–19 at Santa Monica College. Competing against top programs from across Southern California, the Owls earned multiple podium finishes and recorded numerous personal bests over the three-day meet. 

Relay Team Performances 

Citrus delivered competitive efforts in relay competition throughout the three-day meet: 

  • In the 200-yard Medley Relays, the women's team (Hulet, Wu, Terry, Cunningham) placed 7th (2:16.37), while the men's team (Pulley, Gutierrez, Ross, Gregory) placed 9th (1:58.48). 

  • The Men's 400-yard Freestyle Relay team also delivered a strong effort, placing 8th overall with a time of 3:47.09. 

Individual Highlights 

Several swimmers distinguished themselves with standout individual performances: 

  • Kori Cunningham emerged as a top performer, earning bronze medals in both the 50-yard Freestyle (25.88) and the 200-yard Freestyle, the latter in a personal best time of 2:00.29. Cunningham also placed 4th in the 100-yard Freestyle (55.29). 

  • Hannah Wu captured a bronze medal in the 100-yard Individual Medley with a personal record of 1:08.91, while also placing 5th in the 200-yard Breaststroke (2:51.62) and 9th in the 100-yard Breaststroke (1:21.59). 

  • The 100-yard Individual Medley saw three Citrus swimmers advance to the top ten: Trinity Hulet (7th, 1:15.92 PR), Gabi Terry (8th, 1:16.90 PR), and Maryeon Reedy (10th, 1:16.33 PR). 

Additional Noteworthy Performances 

The meet also yielded numerous personal bests and top 16 finishes across both Men's and Women's events: 

  • Natalie Abril posted a PR in the 50 Free (28.23, 16th) and 100 Breast (1:29.86, 15th). 

  • Ethan Gregory recorded a personal best in the 50 Free (23.86, 12th) and finished 13th in the 100 Free (55.75). 

  • James Pulley delivered career-best times in the 50 Free (26.41) and 100 Free (58.65, 16th). 

  • Liam Ross placed 11th in the 100 Fly with a personal best (1:00.20) and 8th in the 200 Fly (2:24.81). 

  • Milton Gutierrez took 14th in the 100 Breast (1:10.82) and 12th in the 200 Breast (2:39.52). 

  • Trinity Hulet also posted a PR in the 100 Backstroke (1:17.00, 14th). 

  • Gabi Terry finished 16th in the 100 Free (1:09.28), and Maryeon Reedy placed 15th in the 200 Breaststroke (3:18.50). 

The Owls' performance at the WSC Championships reflects a season of continued development and competitive growth. Kori Cunningham as qualified for the 76th Annual 3C2A Championships which will be held in Santa Rosa, CA next week, April 30-May 3.
