Owls Make it Fourth Straight With Mercy of Glendale
Glendora, CA - The Citrus College Softball team made it four straight victories on Thursday afternoon with a 9-1 mercy rule win over visiting Glendale College. The Owls largely took advantage of eight Vaquero errors, but got what they needed when they needed it in the eight run win.
The Owls did most of their damage in the first three innings, scoring on an RBI by sophomore Celine Spathias in the bottom of the first, and then RBIs from freshmen Valerie Ortiz, Molly Montell, and Jocelyn Alvarado in the second. In the bottom of the third, Ortiz would strike again, smoking a double to left-center to plate freshman Seanna Jimenez to make it 6-0.
Glendale would break up the Owl run in the top of the fourth, but Citrus would end the game in the bottom of the fifth when back-to-back errors by the Vaquero short stop gave the Owls an eight run advantage.
Freshman Vanessa Garcia would pick up her third win of the year, pitching all five innings, giving up three hits, the one run, and striking out three batters. At the plate, Ortiz led the way going 2-for-2 with two runs and a pair of RBIs. Alvarado would go 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.
With the win, Citrus improves to 12-7 overall and 2-1 in WSC East play. The Owls will be back in action on Friday afternoon when they take on Pasadena City College. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM.
