Softball Returns to 3C2A Regionals

After a strong 2025 regular season, Citrus College Softball (24-16) earned the 11th seed in the 3C2A Softball Championship SoCal Regionals. The Owls captured the Western State Conference-South title with a 10-2 conference record and now head into the postseason looking to build on their success. 

For the second consecutive year, Citrus will compete in Round 1 of the 3C2A Southern Regional. The Owls face No. 6 seed Cerritos College (29-10) in a best-of-three series at Nancy Kelly Field at Cerritos College. Game one is scheduled for Friday, May 2 at 2 p.m., with game two set for Saturday, May 3 at 12 p.m., and, if necessary, game three to follow at 2 p.m. 

Citrus comes into the playoffs riding momentum, having won seven of their last 10 games. The Owls boast impressive team numbers, ranking among the state's best: 

  • 318 hits (21st) 

  • 241 runs (15th) 

  • 145 walks (3rd) 

  • 107 stolen bases (6th) 

  • .304 team batting average 

  • 3.86 team ERA 

  • 96.8% fielding percentage (8th) 

The series will mark the first meeting between Citrus and Cerritos this season. The Falcons, winners of six of their last 10 games, bring similar firepower: 

  • 318 hits 

  • 243 runs 

  • 171 walks 

  • 63 stolen bases 

  • .305 team batting average 

  • 2.81 team ERA 

  • 97.0% fielding percentage 

Key Players to Watch 

For Citrus: 

  • Madelyn Hajj (So.) – Leads the state with 14 home runs and ranks second with 55 RBIs, batting .370. 

  • Rylee Praytor (So.) – Tops the Owls with a .405 batting average and 47 hits. 

  • Alivia Martinez (Fr.) – Batting .347 and leads the state with 45 stolen bases. 

  • Caitlin Kelley (So.) – Anchors the pitching staff with a 3.55 ERA and 87 strikeouts across 179.1 innings (8th most in the state). 

For Cerritos: 

  • Marley Cortez (Fr., 3B) – Batting .422 with 57 hits (8th in the state) and 39 RBIs. 

  • Briana Zarate (So., C) – Batting .336 with 40 hits and 31 RBIs. 

  • Tatyana Cortez (P) – Leads the Falcons' pitching staff with 21 wins (5th in the state), 23 complete games, and 215 strikeouts (2nd in the state) across 37 appearances.

  • Only 3C2A-approved passes will be honored.
