Owls Rally for Eight Runs in Fifth to Beat Ventura
Citrus College Softball defeated Ventura College 10-6 at home Thursday, February 5. With the win, the Owls improve to 5-3 overall, while Ventura drops to 1-4.
Ventura jumped out to a 5-0 lead, scoring two runs in the top of the second inning and adding three more in the third. Citrus got on the board in the bottom of the third with a solo home run by Brooke Whiteman, her second of the season, followed by a Grace Twente RBI groundout that scored Alivia Martinez to make it 5-2.
The Owls erupted for ten runs on eleven hits with five walks and four strikeouts. Alivia Martinez went three at-bats with two hits, two runs, and three RBIs, while Grace Twente was two-for-three with two runs, two RBIs, and two stolen bases. Jaelynn Eaves went two-for-four with two runs and three RBIs. Mia Godoy had one hit in three at-bats and scored a run, Jocelyn Escobedo had one hit and one run, and Izzy Poveda had one hit. Desteny Garcia was one-for-three with a run, and Samantha Juarez went three at-bats with one hit, one run, one RBI, and a stolen base. Brooke Whiteman went three at-bats with one hit, two runs, one RBI, and a home run. Extra-base hits included a double by Twente, a triple by Martinez, and home runs by Eaves and Whiteman.
Brissa Ayon (W, 5-1) earned the win, throwing seven innings while allowing six runs, five earned, on eleven hits. She walked none and struck out one.
Citrus will travel to Moorpark College for a doubleheader Friday, February 6, with games at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
