Volleyball closed out its regular season home slate tonight, sweeping Glendale College 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-21) on Sophomore Day.
Before first serve, Citrus honored sophomores Aaliyah Janae Freeman, Alexia Avalos, and Savannah Mendoza for their leadership and contributions to the program. Glendale's sophomores were also recognized as part of the pregame ceremony.
With the victory, the Owls improve to 15-11 overall and 7-5 in Western State Conference play, while Glendale wraps up its season at 3-21 overall and 1-11 in conference.
Citrus came out strong from the opening serve. Freeman sparked the offense early, tallying five kills in the first set to help the Owls cruise to a 25-16 win. The second set was tighter, as Glendale battled back to keep things close, but late kills from freshman Sophia Martinez sealed a 25-21 win for Citrus.
In the third set, the Owls jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead behind strong attacks from Hannah Collins, Shaylen McFoy, and Martinez. Glendale managed to close the gap but never overtook the Owls, who secured the 25-21 win to complete the sweep.
On a night dedicated to the sophomores, the trio made their presence felt. Freeman finished with seven kills, one ace, one solo block, and one block assist. Mendoza added eight digs, while Avalos chipped in six key digs to anchor the defense.
